This piece focuses on the defeat of the dreaded Japanese Oni/ Yokai, Shuten Doji by the Samurai Minamoto no Raikō by cutting off his head. Shuten Doji's head continued to bite and almost killed Raikō.
The inscription on the bottom roughly translates to "Conquer your demons" with the sword that defeated him below.
